1984 244 GL.
clock only runs when the car is on.
i think its running...

i have recently replaced my blower motor, so i had all that stuff apart.
but it didnt run before that either.
i mean i checked all the connections and i thought it was good.

any thoughts on what could be doing this?
it cant be the clock right?
or could the wire that keeps it running when off be affected in the clock?

thanks as always, and happy to be here!

the clock is run solely from the instrument cluster on my' 88 GL, I'd suspect a loose connector or broken wire, or conductor on the cluster.

Is it in the cluster or the small stand alone unit to the side? Chances are is being powered from a switched supply vs. a always live +12v ...

Check for 12v on the right side of fuse 8.

it is the smaller one in the center dash.
as i have a tach.
i will check for 12v on fuse 8.
when i had the clock out everything looked ok and i put the connectors back where they went on the back of the cluster.
so if it is a failure in the cluster, maybe i could just re wire it to be on all the time?

Did you ever get this resolved? I have the same problem in my 83 244 GL. Same type of small quartz clock in mine.

Today I removed the clock (for now) and snapped a panel into the slot from another 240 to cover the hole. I scraped the contacts clean, but that didn't help.

Another problem: when I was repainting the interior recently, a bit of paint splattered on the front of the clock, which I can't seem to remove.

I'd like to re-install it and have it work again, but for now it's a no-go.
