Is there someine who knows the suitable size of the alloy wheels for my 1999 S80 2.5tdi? The current wheels are 215/55/R16. I am not sure if I can use 18' alloy wheels. I can see other size wheels indicated on the door of fuel tank. They are 205/55/R16, 225/50/R17.

I think clearance is going to be your biggest issue. Volvos are known to have tire rub when turning at full crank, so going too big will just result in more of the same. For tire sizes, you can go with any of the following:

235/45/17

235/40/18

235/35/19

Obviously the above are just sizes that appropriate based on factory specs for the 16" tires and finding onces with the same rolling rate. Rims are whatever you may choose for the most part, again, stating that rub may be an issue.

You can safely run 17" on your car. 18's" will also work but you may get some rubbing. With 19" definitely there will be some rubbing. I have 17" on my S60 with no problems.

Check the for sale section of the forum. Also craigslist, ebay, etc.

I just changed the 4 wheels (215/55/16) to 225/45/17. But I can hear some rhythmed rub from the front driver side. But I checked and sae nothing. Any ideal for that?

Thanks.

I'm guessing it might not be tire rub, rather the bearings going bad in a wheel. Is it both wheels or more specifcally one side or another?

Bearings are in the hub of the wheel assembly, and when they start going bad, they make a rythmic thump type noise and are heard most often on a straight line but may get louder when you turn either to the right or left, but usually not both.

Thanks man. I asked my local garage to check today. he said the rubbing noise is from the driverside rear brake disk. There are some rust and abrasion so the pad is touching the place in the disk where the level of abrasion is different from other place. Hence the rhythmed rub occur. He said if I spent 30 pounds, he would clean all brake disk and adjust them. The issue will be resolved. I will see how is going on on Saturday.

Thanks for your help again.
