Well I got everything removed except the rotors, I can't seem to get these things removed. Any special tools required besides a darn big hammer, trust me I'm half tempted ;)

Thanks in advance for any help you could throw my way!

Ok, I just hammered the rotors and they came off :)

Besides our old Lexus LS400 this is one of the easiet brake jobs I've ever done! And to think the dealer wanted $740 to do the job. Once I figured out how to remove and reinstall the parts, the other side only took me 20 minutes tops. Bought the rotors and pads from IPD for $250, how the hell does the dealer figure it costs $490 in labor?

Here's to you dealers :bwekk:

How big a hammer did you have to use. I got nervous after they didn't come off and put everything back together. Guess I'll try again this weekend.
Are all the clips and pads pretty intuitive. I've done many but never a Volvo.
thx!

New owner of a 2007 xc-90 and just found out I'm not supposed to turn the front rotors.
Has anyone any input on this one?

Not to be overly clever but, evidently it takes quite a hammer to get them off the vehicle. Once you pound on them, they definitely can't be turned. So, net net is, you buy new ones. There may be another reason but this one suffices for me.

Mine is a 2007 XC-90 and the front rotors came off easily after removing the caliper brackets, the only thing holding them on to the hub was a small single bolt with a 10 or 12 mm hex head.
Have since found out that it is against Volvo policy to turn the rotors, you're just supposed to mic' them and if still within tolerance replace only the pads, this was according to a Volvo dealer service manager.
Called a Volvo specialist shop, non affiliated to Volvo, and they said the same thing, the explanation was that the metal used is inherently soft and therefore reduces the life of the rotor.
Have since heard from other tech's its ok to turn them but you'll shorten the rotor's life by that much.
Replacing the front pads and pulling the rotors off and on was a relatively simple job though.

melav8r - did you find that after removing the 10/12mm bolt the rotor easily came off?
