hello everyone,

i have a question about the difference between the T (160 hp) and the T4 (197 hp) versions of the S40 from the 2001 model. if i've driven a turbocharged S40 (with automatic gearbox), and there has been in it a button that increases the turbo compression and makes the performences much better - does it mean i've driven the T4 version? or maybe both versions has this feature?

i drove it a few years ago, and it was such a great experience. now i just want to know exactly what was it...

thanks

There is only a sport button on the auto gearbox. There has never been any button to increase the turbo boost pressure. I would think its more likely that you droove a 2.0T not a T4 as auto T4s are fairly rare.

Dandle - what exactly does this sport button do?
in most automatic cars i know, it just forces the gearbox to change gears in higher RPM. but as far as i recall from my S40 experience, after i pushed that button, i recieved much more power from the engine already in very low RPM. maybe this feature causes the turbocharger to go into action in lower RPM?
anyway, i know that auto T4's are rare, but is there any way i can tell the difference for sure?
i think the button was placed somewhere on the dashboard, and not on the gear-lever, like in most cars with sport-mode-auto-gearboxes.

bpray - sorry mate, im not sure that i understand what you mean. could you explain?

thanks for your comments guys

As far as I know the sport button will hold the gear slightly longer before changing up, not just when your pushing it but also when normally driving. If it felt like suddenly there was more power after pushing the button the car may just have a fault with the recirc valve or other glitch occuring at the same time. The T4 and 2.0T(auto or not) from the factory didnt have selectable boost on a button, the max boost was set by the ecu and never changed.

I agree with Dandle, to my knowledge he's spot on!
