Just had my V70R serviced. It was the 80,000 mile expensive one (almost £500). Add to that £200+ for new rear disks with all the bits and I've just parted with £720. So far no problems, if I wanted cheap I'd drive a Micra.

However, a further £520's worth was done under the Volvo warranty I got with the car. So my question is this. Do any owners of V70R's past the first flush of youth have a warranty service they would recommend as my Volvo warranty runs out next month and I'm considering getting the car covered for another year or two. Volvo want £770 so that's out of the question but I'd like the main expensive bits to be covered.

Alternately, is anyone of the opinion that the money would be better off in my pocket. I guess I could salt away a few quid here and there and build up a slush fund to cover most things then if nothing crops up I've got some fun money.

What's the liklihood of being hit with something crippling with these cars, something £1500 plus?

Interesting question as i had similar thoughts. I bought a P Regd 88000 mile V70 2.5Turbo which Volvo specialist dealer said dont bother with warranty. They had spent about £400 on new discs and pads, new tyres, new foglights at front, new themostat and O2 sensor. He said stick a few quid a month into savings as nothing major would go for a very long time. Well anyway I ended up spending £280 on a 2 year aftermarket warranty with Autoprotect.
Well what do you know the first thing to go was rear oil seal £280 - not covered and consequential damage was clutch plates - £102 - not covered! Mind you I am still happy with the warranty cos it does cover things like mechanical failures and alternators and power steering and air con that costs the big money.
