I have a 2005 S40 2.4i, automatic transmission. I am okay with the steering in the snow, but my acceleration in snow or slick rainy conditions is awful. When going up a small hill, or when starting from a red light/stop sign, the car goes no where. Because of the STC, its insisting on making the wheels spin at the same speed, which ends up being 0 - 0.1 RPM (I might be exaggerating). I feel like I have the same issue in Drive or in Winter Mode. Basically I am scared I won't get out of the way of an oncoming truck because it cuts power to the wheels instead of moving me.

I can play around a little by turning off STC (I think in Winter mode only)? I am also considering investing in snow tires.

Does anyone have good suggestions to make this car perform better in the snow? Will snow tires be a worthwhile investment or will it still be bad in the winter, and a waste of my money?

I love my car a lot, but this is my biggest problem and its very concerning. Thanks to anyone who can help!
