I have a V50 (56 plate) 2.4 SE which has twice now totally died. Symptoms are that as I am driving along, the engine shudders, I do not have consistent power, and then the engine totally cuts out and I cannot restart. What has happened is that the fuse for the fuel system (75?) has blown.

As it is failing it feels like the fuel is not evenly being delivered to the engine. After about 20 seconds of the shuddering, the car totally dies and will not restart. One dealer had the car from early Saturday morning to the following Wednesday evening but merely replaced the fuse (because the computer would not talk to them!). It's now in with another dealer.

Has anyone got any ideas on what the problem could be please?

Maybe your car is one of those affected by this recall??

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -- Ford-owned Volvo Cars said Saturday it was recalling 82,000 cars because of a rust problem that could lead to the vehicle's engine stalling.
The recall concerns the car-maker's S40 and V50 models, made between 2004 and 2006, with five-cylinder petrol engines.
Volvo Cars spokeswoman Maria Bohlin said recalls were being made in the company's "corrosion markets," meaning countries where the climate is such that the cars are exposed to more rust-speeding factors such as rain, or road salt.
"In the worst case, the car can stall," she said.
In warmer and dryer countries, the cars have instead been provided with an extended guarantee.
Most of the cars had been sold in the United States, Sweden and Germany, she said.
Bohlin said the problem was located in the fuel pump electronic module, which controls the gas flow to the engine, she said.
"(It) is located in a way that it can be exposed to rainwater and roadsalt, which increases the risk of corrosion."
She declined to comment on how much the recall would cost the company.

Thanks for the response. Mine is a late 2006 model so I do hope that it is not! I guess though that this could give an explanation for the fuse blowing..... :(

I have a s40 2005 and I just received the recall letter for my car. It sound's like like I should have that fix soon after the snow we have had and the salt they dump on the roads...
