This is my 6th Volvo Starting with a 544,145,245,245T,765T,V70AWD
I bought this White 1998 V70 AWD when it showed up on criegslist at a price I could not pass up "$4444.00" Well the car was filthy and poorly maintained He had taken it to the dealer because of CEL and trac's and ABS lights being on.
Well they quoted him over $2000.00 to start fixing it and he desided to sell rather than fightit. I ended up paying $3500. for it.
Well a Trac/ABS module for $85.00 from Ebay solved one problem I am still fighting the PO243 + PO171 codes but it looks like its the MAF at this time. I had it serviced by a local independent volvo shop and they replaced ALL fuids at my request as well as the timming belt "150K".
They thought the codes were from a TPS switch as I guess its a common problem with this model car. But within hours the problem was back :(
So reading on the net I found where several other people had the same symptoms and it turned out to be a MAF going out. So I went out this morning and tried starting it and it still was blowing black smoke untill I unpluged the MAF and it smoothed right out. :)

Anyway Thats the story to date. It looks like the stealership saved me a bunch of money by getting the guy to sell it cheap. I don't feel bad as the guy was not taking car of the car like he should so I guess I am saving it.

There was a 98 V70XC I saw listed: 250,000 miles on the clock and bunch of issues (needed: shocks, windsheild, tires, brakes, broken rear latch)- no CEL though. asking price was $1200.

I thought about nabbing it for something to play with, but I have my doubts about it passing our provincial emssions test. Might make a cool bush buggy LOL!!

Cheers, okey... drinking and driving does not go together.
However I just wanted to tell you my story about my second Volvo.
In february this year (2008), I was rear ended on the I-90, during bad road conditions.
My car at the time a Volvo 855T5 1995 with only 135k on the meter, in very good shape.
The young man that hit me, totalled my car and a troopers car.
He was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe 2001.
However, after three weeks of driving around in a rental car I found my replacement, an Volvo V70 AWD 1998 with 105k on the meter. Brand new BF Goodridge tires on original rims, new brakes and rotors all around and a recent service at a local Volvo station. Nothing wrong with the car, and all the electronics working, body in real good shape except from some paint chipping off on the front and rear bumper.
I paid 435 dollars for the car (including taxes, and fees) after the insurance had re-imbursed me for my loss.
And the owner wanted 7500 from the beginning for the car, I got it down to 5500. Final price $5935.00.

But I will allways miss my 855T5. Rest in Peace my dear friend :00000715:

Thanks GreekMason, unfortunate it's not the same engine..... has the 2.4l light pressure turbo only 199 hp stock. Will see what to do about it.
Love the color on the other hand, depending how the lights fall on the car it shiftes between dark sea green to blue and black. Color code says Tropical Green metallic.

yeah, but on the 2.4, there are upgrades. ipd, rica, mte (of sweden), they all have upgrades. even a k & n, new plugs, 8 mm wires, rotors, etc. would make a difference. and that is half the battle, being a little different to make life interesting. good on ya' man.
