Hi Folks-

my radio on my s60 started acting up a few days ago. On it's own it will switch stations( from one preset to another it has jumped from #2 to #8 though). I'm wondering if you think this is a fuse or something else?

I'm not sure what causes it but my s60 used to do the exact same thing. Then one day, it stopped. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't re-create it.

I've got the same problem on my 2002 V70. The radio dances around through all the Preset Stations. For example, the station will jump up and down the presets, from 1 - 2 - 3 - 8 - 9 - 14 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2... It hovers for 1-2 seconds on each station before it jumps to the next. The CD and casette are not affected.

It started last Summer, on a HOT day, but went away a few days later; then it came back in the Winter (hmm... so is it weather-related, or not?). Again--went away, and now, this Spring, the Demon is back.

I called my local Volvo repair shop, and they want $788 to replace/install a reconditioned radio.

My work cohorts (automotive engineers) overheard my phone conversation, and asked me some Dx questions that the Volvo shop did not:
- do you have audio controls in the steering wheel?
- does vehicle movement affect the radio skipping?

Yes, I do have "redundant audio," (controls in the st. wheel), and Yes, every so often--but not always--a bump will cause it to change stations. He commented that the fault could be with the steering wheel switches, or in fact, the clock spring. If that is true, then, replacing the radio would not help.

So, I too am stuck. Anyone else out there find a solution without spending a lot of money?

Disconnect the wire harness for the exterior audio controls. If the radio still continues to change presets by itself then that was not the problem.
