I've got a S80 1999 2.9 which seems to require extended cranking to get it fired into life. If the car has been running and is stopped for a short while it will start again pretty much on the first crank, but if left for a while / overnight will take a good 6+ seconds of cranking before it starts.

I am told by my local dealership that the throttle body housing has been replaced and the ETM upgrade has been carried out.

Previous service paperwork shows the same problem in the past, suspecting a "leaking" injector. Car runs fine after starting and otherwise suffers with no other problems.

My local dealership tell me that if it is the injectors leaking then the whole rail needs to be replaced as individual injectors cannot be replaced (OUCH!), however they also suggested it might be some other problem such as the injector o-rings not properly sealing or a fuel pump / filter issue.

I normally run the car on autogas rather than petroleum which is directly injected into the inlet manifold. The petrol injectors are electrically isolated when runing on gas.

Sorry for the long post but any ideas would be gratefully received. I don't want to go to the dealer$hip only for them to waste lot$ of time and $$$ replacing components on a whim.

Thanks all in advance. All suggestions welcomed !

I have a S80 2.9 w/138k I bought it back in June of last year and in November I had to replace the transmission! $ 4,000.00 later the engine light is now on!
I worked for Volvo of ClearLake in TX until I saw how they screwed customers but, I always liked the Volvos so I bought one. in my time of working there I never heard of major problems with these cars. When I had the transmission replaced the tech told me that the 99 and 2001 are nothing but, problems! I feel like eveybody knew but me because I cant even sale the POS nobody wants it not even with warrenty! Yes I do like the luxury of the seat warmers and the feeling of safty but, its breaking my bank! My advise is just drive it until it dies completely and then sell it for parts! Am I the only one who is having these kinda problems?
Thanks in advanced and remember to always disopse of medical waste properly!
