wow ive had a 440 es for a few years now but just bought a 1996 440 es 1.8 , 1 owner from new.. never seen rain, no one has ever sat in it other than the driver.. metallic blue in colour..what a peach...BUT!!!!!! i have a few lil worries..
the car has quite a bad flat sopt when its warm.. and the temperature guage reads higher than my last 440 es... my previous es was the 1.6 this is the 1.8 do they run hotter??? the guage settles about 3/4 the way up... should i be worried???? thanks guys.. great forum

I wouldnt worry too much, the temperature guage could just mean you need a new thermostat, between 1/4 and 3/4 is where I have had all of my 440's, and they have all run fine, it could be that the heater matrix is a bit clogged, that can be easily back flushed to clear it out (something I tend to do annually anyway.
The flat spot could mean any one of several things, it could be a sensor mis reporting, if the fuel economy is bad, then it could be the oxygen sensor. how many miles on the clock, all of mine so far have easily reached 200,000 miles, my current one is at 156,000 miles, and does 100 miles a day, just spotted the flat spot is when it is warm, that says to me its not the oxygen sensor, that usually exhibits as a flat spot whilst cold. Hmm, mine has a very slight flat spot at around 4000 rpm, almost not noticeable, I have a 1.8 single point injection, I guess maybe some injector cleaner, might help, or a check of the vacuum hoses into the injector (I have had one blocked that caused all sorts of fun until I found it).
