I have a 2001 C70 Convertible and am having a problem with the SC-901 Dolby Pro Logic Stereo.

Let me preface this by saying am am not knowledgable about this stuff.

The problem started with the lower speaker on the passenger door sounding very distorted which I assumed I had blown the speaker.

Then the next time I turned the car on it sounded great. This kept happening sometimes it would sould fine and other times it would sound really bad.

I told the guy at Circuit City, and he said it wasn't a blown speaker because that would never get better. He suggested the problem was either the amp or the receiver, but could'nt tell me how to know which was the problem.

I think he is probably right about it not being the speaker because now the lower speaker on the Driver's side door sounds bad at times.

Also every once in a while the sound will intermittently get loud for a couple seconds without me touching the volume.

I'm thinking maybe the problem is the amp, but like I said I don't know much about this stuff.

I'd appreciate any advice or comments on what you think the problem is, as well as what to do.

Thanks,
Justin

I disagree with what you were told. A speaker that is going bad can sound normal at times. This could be caused by numerous variables. Just by going with what you have stated if the amplifier was the cause then all your speakers in the right front of the vehicle would be bad, as well if the radio was the culprit. This is because the car uses a 4 channel amp to run the speakers, basically 1 channel per corner of the car. The 901 powers the center speaker through a green speaker plug.

My 1st question to you is what song, source, volume level, bass and treble level, type of sound when the problem occurs. First guess would be a bad speaker or a connection problem.

2nd question, if you narrow down the problem, who is going to fix it?

Things to do to find the problem, turn off dolby on all music sources to just normal stereo. Remove radio and verify the amplifier din plug is plugged in completely. If it is then wiggle the plug to see if that causes your distorted sound problem. Give us an updated, and remember details they help when you can't see the car.
Good luck.
