So, I have a 94' 940. It has 2 speakers in front dash, 2 speakers in front doors, 2 speakers in back doors, and 2 more speakers in back dash. Do all of these speakers have seperate channels or do 2 speakers share each channel? I just bought a fairly inexpensive JVC unit and ordered an install kit but now I'm really confused. I've never had a vehicle with more than 4 speakers. Please enlighten me. Thanks

the front dash speakers and front door speakers work off of the front left and right

subsidary: the speakers on the dash are HF tweeter units nothing above 2khz ish comes out of them, so sibilance sounds etc...

the rear doors and parcel shelf work off the rear left and right.

quick question, are you sure you have rear door speakers aswell as parcel shelf. i thought this with my 940 only to find when i took off the cover on the door, no speakers were installed.

Replacing the oem HU with an aftermarket should be fine with the original speakers, just dont turn it up too loud otherwise you can tear the paper cones on the oem speakers.
