Hi Guys.
Does anyone have a good ballpark figure for the cost to flush and fill the transmission fluid on a s40....some american outlets apparently charge in the neighbor of $60......but a swedish specialist repair spot quoted $375 for a full synthetic change. Any ideas on this one??
Thanks!!

what type of oil are the chain shops using? $60 is usually with only half of what a volvo needs and it is not a synthetic fluid. figure around $125 +/- depends on the shop. i've seen them more than that, also. shop around, but know if you will use a jiffy lube or a pepboys, etc, check how many quarts and what type of oil. find out what yours needs and work from there. good luck.

I would be careful with the tranny flushing. Depending on your mileage you might be doing more harm than good by flushing it. My owners manual doesn't recommend servicing the trans fluid unless you use the vehicle for towing. There is also a TSB issued by Volvo about proper fluid requirements. They DO NOT APPROVE any of the regular fluids you can buy on a shelf, which is probably what most shops would use. Only Volvo fluid meets the Volvo spec. I have the 5 speed auto not sure what yours is. I have also in the past made the mistake of getting a fluid flush even after people warned it was a bad idea. My trans in my ford explorer died 3 months after the flush. Volvo transmissions are crazy expensive if you are not having problems I would not touch it. Just my opinion I am sure others may disagree with me.

well it depends on what flush you are talking about? if it is one of those pump type of flushes, I agree with s40guy, those do more harm than good. if you mean to just keep changing the oil until it is clean, I've had no problems with that method. the pump type just dislodges everything and gunks up the works. the other way uses more fluid but it gets it all out slowly. just another two cents to add to the pot. and i only use amsoil in all of my cars, recommendation or not, i just feel that a quality aftemarket oil is better in opinion since they have to service so many different types of vehicles. on my harleys, the dealership says only use harley oil, at 18 bucks a pop. sorry, for that i can get double the mileage, and it's synthetic.
