I've had my S70 AWD for about a month now, I like it overall but the ride seems VERY harsh for a sedan. I love the way it corners, neutral as a GO CART. but it is harsh and transfers a lot of road noise and roughness thru the suspension.
The car has 124,000 miles. I have no idea on the age of the struts but the don't feel mushy at all.
I haven't had it up in the air yet, My plan is to check averything for play,

Is a harsh ride typical with these cars?

What size tires do you have? When I went to a 17" tire and wheel on my S60, up from a 16", the ride got noticeably stiffer and noisier. Of course I was willing to put up with this because I looked sooooo much cooler. B)

do you hear or feel any bumping or thudding? that might signify that the struts are going, but of course the car wouldn't handle that good then? JKS2 is correct, what are the tire sizes?

The tire pressure was set at 51 Lbs (that is how they are rated on the side wall!)
I dropped them to 40Lbs, It looks like the oil change shop took them back up to 51 again. The mechanic that works on it recommends that I drop them down to 34.

Sounds good to me, I've NEVER run more than 35Lbs in a passenger tire.

If you mean psi (pounds per square inch) then about 32 psi all round is the norm, 50 psi would be far to much. the tyre pressure on the side wall is the max permissible pressure for the tyre, , not the recommended pressure for your car.
