Hello all this is going to sound like a pretty lame question but essentially what kind of engine is in my V40?

Its a 1999 1.9d as far as I can make out from he documentation and has direct injection on the engine cover. It is quite possibly the slowest car I have ever driven so I presume that it has no turbo can anyone out there tell me the spec of this car I have very little other info!!

Also I have a wooshing whistling noise coming from the dash?

There is also a buzzing noise coming from near the air filter after the engine has been run?

There is a buzz/click for a minute or so after ignition key turned pre starting the engine.

are these noises normal have I bought a dog? Will it ever go fast?

Thanks

Volvo dont do a 1.9 d non turbo, if it is a diesel then poss you got a fault like a split charge air pipe that is causing yours to be slow.

The buzz pre ignition may be the system taking juice for the glow plugs and injection maybe you need a better battery.

As raydar has pointed out the diesel has a turbo, there are not many naturally aspirated diesels out there now.

The noises from the dash, turn the heating controls to off and see if it still makes noise.

ok sussed a few things yup it does, as you all already knew have a turbo I was just surprised at how underpowered it is compared to my VW the loud whooshing noise was due to a rupture in a large bored rubber hose leading to the turbo possibly via the intercooler but coming from the bottom of the radiator. Took it of and botched it for the meantime and car goes a bit better but still not impressed! will go sourse a replacement hose and see how it goes

Have already changed the battery and thats really when the noise started, battery is a beast though so sure it aint that.

thanks for your imput
