Ya, I would be a happy man if it just passed half-life with 320 on the clock. The light hasn't been back. Trying to figure out what was different about the day it came on. I did whack the top of the dash a couple times and some of my general lighting bulbs came on for the cluster. This has me wondering if the damn light is on all the time and just not making the connection always. Well i will see if it will give me any codes. Cheers.

P.S- Just replaced my front wheel bearing, two bolts took me 4 hrs. Ya know, strip, chisel and cut !!

QUOTE(love2hatemy850T @ Feb 6 2008, 10:36 AM)
[attachmentid=3662]Hey fellas, the infamous light has not returned so i drew a picture. Correct me if I'm wrong but it is my belief that upon turning the key to the II position all of the instrument lights should come on and the computer does an onboard diagnostics or "system check" before ignition begins in the next position. The box in that space has never lit up before-not position I-not position II- not upon starting. The strange thing is , for the short duration that this light entered my life it came on upon position II with the rest of the lights in the system check mode. This has never happened before and now once again is just a dead space. The car started as normal with the ABS and TRACS lights staying on and then upon hitting the brakes "POOF" the unknown light was on. I am going to have the hydraulic unit rebuilt to hopefully cure my ABS. Has anyone else seen this light before?

I hope you guys are OK, here.

Anycase, lovetohate, even if the light has shut out, without a proper deletion using either the obd1 box in the engine bay or the code reader for the obd2 systems, the message will still be in the memory. You can still use the code-reader to retrieve and see what message lies within that caused the lambda light to emerge in the first place.

Thanks.

this is the EES right? something to do with fault on the engine fuel or ignition system (says in the manual) this also means that the engine does not meet exhaust regulation?

just to cut things short mine is on. half life sign is the check engine for eu V's right?

but when i got home this evening the light turned off. maybe something to do with the brand of unleaded gas i use? BTW engine starts normally.

The lambda light could be triggered by a few possibilities. And after a while, they will reevaluate the problem, and if the problem has been taken cared of, or is fixed, then after a 'few cycles', the light will go off. But the message will continue to be stored, until you manually delete it. Which is why it is best to attack the problem when the light is still on. Cause, if you keep accumulating the error messages, you wont know which is the actual problem once you retrieve everything down.

THanks.

I think My Man Greek asked you a question earlier about the year of manufacture for your 850.

The reason is just that pre1995 manufactured 850s run on the OBD1 system, and you can read/delete error codes from the small black box located between your ECU box and the front headlights.
But post 1995 850s are OBD2 system, where you'll need a code-scanner or a scan-tool to read the codes and delete etc. The usual typical case is that the more expensive the reader, the more functions it carries. Try googling up if you want to buy any.
Aside from that, either go to the accessories store (Greek mentioned Pep-Boys?) or the dealer to get them to help read and delete the codes.

Let's hope its just something small.

I think Edward983 is running on OBD1 system, with the small-black box in the engine bay.

Besides using a OBD II scanner you can unhook the battery but you shouldn't do that until you know why the Check Engine / Lambda light turned on (IE) read the codes with the scanner first.

it won't go off by disconnecting the battery, it will come back if it's something that needs to be looked at.

Yes, for the OBD2 systems, you need to use a scanner to read the codes. Many versions are available on the Net. Just make sure they can read Volvos, on top of the universal codes and you should be fine.

And read them, and rectify the issue first, and THEN, delete the code.
