strange thing happended today with my new 1999 v70 t5. when i bought the car, it came with a trashed remote. so i took the casing of my previous volvo remote, and put the guts from the remote that came with the car into it. well this worked just fine for a couple days. well then my wife told me that the remote wasnt working ( the battery is brand new ). sure enough, it hasnt worked in three days.

so ive been trying to get the good remote to work and while trying to figure out if I can programm an old remote. from what ive read, i can not program the remote myself, volvo must do it.

another so,,, ive also read that in some year specific volvos you can program the remote by turning the car to 'on' 5 times, then lock the car with the remote, and bam, done. but ive also read that this is not possible for a 99 v70.

well this morning, i tried the remote again, and to no avail. so i tried the turn to on 5 times thing, and sure enough, the remote has worked beautifully since. did i reset the thing or something?

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN? maybe this will help some...

That would be pretty sweet if that worked. the 99 v70 I purchased only has 1 key, no FOB or anything else.

I tried this with the 1999 V70 I picked up this week but had no luck. I was told the remote did not work by the previous owner but I was hoping that it was just a dead battery.

Someone please elaborate on this. I recently bought a 98 S70 T5 and only received one FOB. I also recently bought a used FOB off Craig's list and just tried turning the ignition on and off 5 times and then hit lock on the used FOB but no luck. Is there a particular sequence you do to make tis work or does this actualy work?

Thanks

that trick works only on certain vehicles with certain alarms. v70er probably has the correct model year for that. when you purchase a fob of uncertain model year, it is best if you have the dealer do it. unless you are certain. for wbhs70T5, it won't work that way for that model. there is another way, of course i am not sure of it, but the 5 "on" doesn't do it for that model. now watch as someone comes and says otherwise. that is because it doesn't work on my 850, and the 70 was supposed to be similar to the 850. good luck to all.
