Hello, I have a 2004 V70 with the original factory stereo. I just purchased the ipod integration kit.

Has anyone used an IPHONE in place of an ipod? I've tried my iphone with several other ipod gadgets and they have all worked... I imagine the ipod kit for the volvo should too. Though before I go through all the trouble of installing it, I thought I would get some feedback...

Anyone?

thank you:)

No, that adaptor works best with Ipod 4th Generation (Ipod Photo) or below.

Some problems with Ipod 5th Generation (Ipod Video) in it may not always detect especially if you use the latest firmware.

Unlikely to work with IPhone.

hello, thank you for the response.

I did some more research and found someone who said that it works, however, only playlist ten will play... Additionally, you can bypass the fact that volvo has configured the addaptor to shut down the iphone controls while driving if you hold down the home button for about 10 seconds...

Anyway, I'm still interested to hear if anyone else has any experience with this.

I guess I'm gonna go for it, as there's no other way to hook music directly into the stereo other then the tape or the fm transmittor... booohhhh!

thanks:)

Hello Again! I've returned to talk about the installation of the ipod adaptor kit (official volvo product) for use with iphone... This post is for folks who are considering the installation and want to know about functionality with the iphone.

1st of all, unless you have some serious patience, and a some skill installing something like this (you have to fish cables under carpet and basically remove the center console, and route cables all throughout your car... It's pretty scary taking apart a $35,000 automobile) Have a professional do it...

If you do it yourself, you need about 5 hour block where you don't plan on driving your car, cause you can't drive away in the middle of installation.

With all that said, I installed it last night, and it acutally worked on the first try!

Things you should know while using your iphone with this adaptor. Unless you hold down the home key on the iphone for 10 seconds, you're stuck navigating your music with the track selectors on the stereo or stearing wheel, which is no big deal if you know your playlist very well. Otherwise, I suggest using the iphone to control the music, cover flow works best...

So, that's good news! The adaptor works, at least in my 2004 v70, with no navigation, and no satalite radio, or cd changer, or DVD.

good luck!

Ahhh - I spoke too soon. I'm getting some weird humming from the ipod adapotor, even when the iphone isn't attached. 2 noises. I noise is clearly the alternator, when you push on the gas the noise changes. Second noise is a really high pitch tone 12,000 khz... Something like that.

Anyway, I checked the ground, it's grounded to the chasis, doesn't seem like I can get it much better than that....

Any suggestions??? I only hear the noise when the stereo soource is the CD changer, with or without the iphone connected.

thanks!

That is strange! The cable is so well insulated it should not get any interference.

Do you have an old Ipod lying around to try?

Why don't you try it without the ground, see what happens.

Hello! I'll give the no ground a try. THe noise happens even if there's not an ipod attached to the cable...

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep ya posted.

Hello, I removed the ground... No luck, it didn't even change the sound...

Hmmm... The only thing I can think of, I ran the ipod cable and the melbus cable together, instead of running the melbus cable under the drivers seat. Those two cables are extremely well insulated, so I doubt that would create any kind of noise, especially alternator noise...

The other change I made during installation was, I ran the ipod cable to the little compartment next to the stereo in the dashboard. Though, I seriously doubt that would have any effect...

Any other suggestions?

thank you,

andrew

I went to my Volvo dealer to have a small problem fixed and inquired about the iPod adapter for a 2004 S80. He told me he had one left but it's a discontinued item and could install it if I wanted it. Has anyone heard about this? What does this mean?

According to the crutchfield catalog that I just received, you can attack the iPhone, but it won't work for all the functions. you have to wait for version 2.0 on the car kits. I am sure that they are working on it as we speak. that's all, sorry.

Hi,
I had the OEM Ipod adapter installed about 10 months ago in my 2007 XC 70. The Ipod (5th Gen) has worked fine until now. Now, all of a sudden, the car radio (HU650) just won't recognize that a device is attached, although the Ipod shows the volvo logo, etc.

I suspect that the issue is a firmware upgrade on the Ipod that I must have done early in January. I've been trying for days to roll back the firmware on the Ipod, but am having no luck. Looks like Apple has made it impossible to install old versions of software on the Ipod.

This is probably why Volvo is no longer selling or supporting their own OEM Ipod adapter. Has anyone had a similar experience or some advice on how to work around this?

Thanks,
Tuneless in Brooklyn

I just had the iPod adapter installed by the dealer on my 2007 XC70. I am having the same noise problems previously mentioned by aschatzb. I think it's 2 noises as well. After checking the balance the noises are only coming out of the right speakers. Any suggestions? Is this properly grounded?

Hi,

Today we got our new Volvo V50 2.4i (2008) with iPod Connector ! Great car !

As an addition to the main post: I connected my iPhone 1.1.3 (8Gb) to the iPod connector and got the same message about compatibility. Also said No to the Airplane question.

1) Disable Random playback still shuffles songs
When disabling the random playback from the Volvo audio / ipod menu, songs are still being played random. I used both the controls on the steering wheel, the playback arrows on the audio installation and the turn knob. That made no difference.

2) Browsing through folders locks buttons / iPhone ?
When browsing through folders with the playback buttons on the Volvo audio system, pressing a 'wrong' button results in a 'lock-up' in the menu. The 'Enter' button doesn't work anymore and the display occasionally displays ' Folder does not contain songs. Press Exit to .....'.

The solution was to disconnect the iPhone and then reconnect. Everything works fine until you press the 'wrong' button (i'm not sure which) or select a 'wrong' item from the menu on the display. Again I'm not sure what exactly causes the problem.

UPDATE: The manual is not correct when it comes to the use of the folder browsing buttons. The translation from English (or whatever language was primary) to Dutch is not correct.

UPDATE: Tonight I will follow the same steps but then with a new iPod Nano: With the iPod Nano (3G) (firmware version 1.1) browsing works fine, no menu lockups or error messages. It appears that the iPhone (or the Volvo connector) has some compatibility problems.

The iPod adapter will not work with an iPhone, at least not in my 2008 XC70. The dealer says they installed the latest version of the adapter. Still looking for an answer.

The Volvo adapter is, in my opinion, not worth purchasing unless you really like scrolling through all your songs with no song search interface and no access to the iPod interface.

I plan to get the Harman Kardon Drive+Play 2.

If you're looking to possibly buy an ipod to replace your phone for car use, I have been considering selling mine, as I never use it, and my new head unit lets me use memory cards instead.

It's a 5th generation video (black), early 2006 model with 30G drive, and have a bunch of accessories for it too (for home use also).

I may put it up on ebay though...just havent gotten around to it.
