Hey. My head light covers are getting foggy in the front of my XC90. Anyone else have this issue? Is it possible to take them and work on them?
Thanks.

Is it water vapour fog inside or outer surface deterioration "fog"?
If the headlights have had an inadvertant meeting with a power buffer at the bodyworks or detailers the outer protective coating on the polycarbonate cover will be removed, usually along an horizontal line level with the bonnet edge. With LOTS of polishing with a plastic swirl removal cream you can get 90% of this out, then cover the rest with contact adhesive type headlight protector sheets - thick clear vinyl essentially. The only way to really fix this is replacement of lights.
Headlights are very easy to remove, just pull the silver pins upwards on top of the lights and they fall out! be carefull you replace them same as they came out though!
If water vapour is your problem, check that the globes / rubbers have been installed correctly? drop the lights out and leave in the sun for a while!

Try cleaning it with a sandpaper, some chrome polish and a tempo wax. I've also tried Meguiar's plastic polish and it worked well. If your headlight cover is glued on, then a hot gun is needed to melt the glue and take it off. Be cautious not to melt your headlight covers though.

toothpaste, & shampoo water. I know your thinking this might be a joke but it really works, and since you probably have these items it might be the cheapest and it can't hurt to try it out. Only thing with this method is that it takes a lot of elbow grease. I already did that on my Honda tail light covers :P

there are several products out there that can help. jewelers rouge works, but be easy on the rubbing. try any pepboys, or napa parts, etc.

I recently purchased a 2004 XC90 with the same problem, sun faded headlight lense. I purchased a headlight restoration kit on-line that uses two different polishing pads and compound with a variable speed drill. The headlights came out great. Do a google search for headlight restoration kit. Many companies sell the same kit. It works great.
