Title says it. I went today and bought two tail lights from a Pull-A-Part (among other items). They look correct but the one on the right has one hole different. The bulb socket doesn't match. Mine has a three prong and this one has a two prong hole. Someone had already removed the bulbs and sockets. I believe it was an early 80. The other came off an 88 and everything matches perfect! I found allot of good items to help restore my 87 but not if I am going to have more of these problems. What year tail lights match an 87?

Obbiously, a unit from a 1987 would be the best match.. but.. not having that you could find out from the dealer if you have the part # of the unit(s) that you have. You could then also, maybe, find out what bulb holders you need. My troubles with the lamps/lights back there have been that I had the wrong bulb holders in the wrong places.

Aparently there were both white and black holders for the bulbs on some Volvo cars.. mine had both sides black. This aparently made the (re)placement easier, so that you would know which side that it came from.

Make sure that you have the correct holders and bulbs. The owners manual could tell you which ones you need.. but a quick call or trip to the dealer parts counter would help you, unless you had acces to a interchange manual which few would have access to besides the dealer. A wrong holder and/or wrong bulb could have your lights not working properly.. as well as misconnected wiring. My problems with that is that someone did a bad job at wiring a trailer wiring harness which messed with how the tail lamps worked.
