how do i replace it?

the well for the cigarette lighter?

do i have to take the console apart to get to it?

its a 2001 s40 1.9T

If you remove the kick panel on the side of the console with the cigar lighter you should be able to reach up and unclip.

i am having to replace the cigarette lighter in my S40.

...but not sure how to remove the console?

carefully cut and break the old ones metal outer casing with snips and pull out then simply pop new in, all cars the same takes ten minutes when you know how.
