Hi There

Just to put you in the picture....I have just received my 2000 Volvo V40 1.9TD back from the garage after nearly 9 weeks.

It went in to get a replacement gearbox.....still not sure if it is a Renault Laguna box or not....however, that's not the problem since my man finally located a box to fit and she runs as good as new. The problem is I've now no interior lights, ABS warning light on, no speedo, air bag warning light on, no radio and no central locking using key fob.

I can understand some of these problems if the battery had gone flat at some point but it hasn't.....It probably needs plugging in but just want to know what you all think.

Have you checked the fuses, maybe you are missing one, let's try the easiest first. Sorry if you have already checked but you didn't say. Does the dash and or side lights work?

just to add to the confusion, does anything electrical work? windows, alarm, immobilizer, etc. maybe a ground wire wasn't reattached when the tranny was replaced. go back to the mechanic and have them do the work. you paid, let them work. unless you are filthy rich, then please adopt me. i am housebroken  sort-of.

Sounds like an ABS sensor is either playing up or not reconnected after transmission replaced. Check the connectors which are in the 2 front wheel arches.

Couldn't get any codes concerning abs. Going to have a go at cleaning the sensors. I have a niggling doubt about the speedo cable that attaches to gearbox. Is it a straight forward job of reattaching it to the new gearbox...could there be a compatibility issue?

None that I can forsee. I mean, it is not like they put in a completely different gearbox, correct? it would be either a new one or a rebuilt one. check the connection at the gearbox first, since that will be the most difficult in terms of raising the car and such. if all is well, then go for the dash. were there any codes from the abs? if not, i agree with mcoles on the sensors at the wheels. unplug and give it an eyeball. if all looks okay, give it a wipe down with a clean rag and if you have access to, get an electrical spray. you would be amazed at the times that little can saved my bacon. (ie, another term for **** ) good luck and keep us posted.
