Hi, I am a new Volvo user here before I was using Lexus GS300. Due to the price of petrol, I just bought a 1999 Volvo S80 TDi with 188000miles. I am not sure it is a good car or not. The airbag needs to be serviced. The message indicated in the dash board. One more question, is anyone drving a high mileages car like me here? What it the maxium mileages can be done in this diesel car? Thanks.

Anyone know can I connect a CD changer to the car. Now it is a single CD inside. Comparing to Lexus, a bit shame.

Not sure what the best engine oil is. I personally use Mobil just because i have become accustomed to the brand. Brand loyalty i guess. The only problem i have is that my car started eating away my oil so i had to switch to Mobil Clean 5000 10-W30 non synthetic formula. Less expensive. Mine has 111000 miles and its a 2.9 though. Yours is probably a stick shift, that would be nice... :( About the cd changer im sure you can find it somewhere, No way that wasnt an option.

Thanks for your reply. My S80 is automatic. The engine oil is dark color now. I hope after service it will be less noisy.

I use Mobil 1 or Penzoil full synthetic. Only use synthetic in my cars.

I just bought 8L Gestech engine oil 0-40W, 39pounds/4litre. I hope it is good. The name of the oil seems to be Gastech?

Yeah i would use synthetic too but like i said my car eats oil now. 1 sythentic is too expensive to just keep refilling, and 2 natural is thicker so it should be seep through slower. You guys probably have better oil than us in the US, everyone here i noticed is always looking for the Castrol European Formula, made in german, its 0-W30 i think. Wish i could but that would just be alot of wasted money.

Thanks for telling the right name, Castrol engine oil. I just asked a gargae to do a full service for the car. I brought the engine oil myself rather than using their cheap products. The engine was fine, but just when starting to driving, at the fist gear, the sound of engine was not very smooth (engine oil was dark and ropy, the last service is one year agao). Now full service has been done, everything is much better than previous even it was already good enough. My lexus is gone today, I fell a bit disspointed. But Volvo also is one of the best car maker. If not, why there are many Buses using Volvo, and lorry too.

I am in Scotland. We know the price of products in US is much lower than them in UK. Even we have the better oil but you have cheaper thing.

In reply to (or question for) POLSKA, I use Castrol synthetic oil in my 1999 S80 2.9, and it mysteriously disappears! The engine does not smoke, so I don't think it's burning oil, and the engine itself is spotless, so it does not leak. I just don't know why it is disappearing! My only solution has been to check the level weekly, and add a quart about every 2 weeks to make sure it doesn't run low. The dealer had recommend the synthetic blend, and doesn't think that is the problem, but they do not know why it would "eat" oil so quickly. Any thoughts?

I suppose it does burn the oil. Because sometimes you only can see the smoke when you are driving at a high speed, for example 90miles/h. I got that problem with my Mondeo before. This time I am using Mobile 0W-40 turbo diessel oil for my S80.
