Hello, my wifes handbag was stolen containing my main Volvo XC90 key. My spare is fine and im driving again.
But as in most handbags our home address was in the bag as well , so the thiefs can come to my house at anytime and use the key to open the car door either by remote or manually and steal my car.
Question is does anyone have any idea of the price of changing the barrels on the car.
Can i just have the keys coded again.
If I have new keys coded again can the old key still start the car.
Please any one , whats the best advice to go forward.
Thanks
Keith

Will not be cheap, but you prob already know this.

Key blade comes with remote, so you will require new lock set with two full new remote keys.

If I have new keys coded again can the old key still start the car. ?

you have two options

1:- you can replace the full lock set plus get two remote keys to fit locks/ignition. (any old keys can be disabled to stop remote locking and starting). This way old key is totally useless.

2:- you can have the key that was stolen disabled (wont unlock with remote and will not start car) and buy a new second key and get that coded by dealership by software. But if someone has the old key they will be able to manually unlock the car, though I think the alarm should go off it was armed (done when locking with a good key remote).

 ....radar...is about right..I'd purchased new keys and alarm fob at the dealer, they will reprogram the computer, thus allowing only these keys to work in your vehicle..Its the safeest solution even though expensive...(My guess would be near $300.00)..
In the meantime, I'd go and buy 'The Club' to place across your steering wheel..They run about 40 bucks at the auto supply stores...I bought mine at a Pep Boys after the dealer (non-volvo dealer) lost a set for my car...He had to pay which I believe was about $250.00 (Dealer price)....
I still use 'The Club' and feel a lot more secure and its takes only 5 seconds to clamp and/or remove...Also fits on the right side of the drivers seat floor level when not in use....
If someone wants you car, they will probably get it, but this makes them work a bit longer...Good luck
