Hi, I have a 1996 460 Si 1.8, and both the oxygen sensor and headlamp wiper could do with replacing. Any ideas if this is a job i should steer clear of and leave to the professionals or could i tackle it myself...with limited machanical knowledge!!

Love and bruises

The oxygen sensor is at the front of the catalytic converter, and is at the top , quite cramped, but an easy job to do, I dont have headlkight wipers on mine so I cant say about that.

do you mean the blade or the complete assembly of the headlight washwipe?.
if you wish to replace the motor then i will try and help you.(i did this the other day on my volvo 440 se.
open the bonnet and in front of you between the wings you will see a plastic guard on top of the radiator that is held on by four or five bolts..take these out and remove the plastic guard.
them either side ot the car depending on which side you are changing there is another plastic guard held on by a couple more screws bolts, undo them and wiggle out the plastic guard.
from here you can see the motor assembly for the wiper motor.
then remove the wiper from the spline by undoing the retaining nut in front of the light and pulling it of(can be a little tight but a wiggle or two should free it).
then follow the motors cable to it's connector and undo the connection.again this could be tight as it has been there a few years!.
then inside behind the headlight you will see the mounting bracket for the wiper motor undo these two nuts and that releases the motor and spline and it should pull back and come out.(not a lot of room but it is possible)
now you have the assembly out you can go to a breakers and get one that is working remembering that they are left or right handed so get the right one or look on ebay when they come up from time to time.
reassembly is the reversal of this and doesnt take to long to do and requires very few tools to do.
as for the sensor are you sure it has gone?.
hope this helps :gitara:
