Hi, I'm a new member. I've found a beautiful 95 Volvo 850, but the only thing wrong with it is there is no cruise control. I spend a lot of time on the highway so this is important. Can cruise be installed? Rough estimate on cost?
Advise would be greatly appriciated!
Paul

Rostra makes both an electric and a vacuum cruise control kit. Not sure what is involved to make a factory setup to work, maybe one of the veterans will know.

You can prolly source for a cheaper setup for the cruise control from the scrapyard... that is, for a used one.

Thanks, so it IS possible? We're going to go ahead and buy this car. I'm looking forward to it!!

Can you offer where I can read about cruise controls and what is involved with installing one?

Are there kits available?

Thanks again,
Paul

I think most information can be derived from VADIS. Try ebay.

you can always go for a jc whitney model. not the most advanced nor the most pretty to look at, but they do work and are inexpensive. something to have in case you don't find the correct one for your volvo from the junkyards.

Thanks again for the replies. I did end up buying and driving this car home on the weekend.....1400km (870 miles) and I'm DEFINATELY going to pursue putting in cruise. Don't know what VADIS or jc whitney is 'yet', but I'll track that down.

As mentioned this is my first Volvo and already I'm thinking, "ya, I understand why people get hooked on these cars." I've owned a mulititude of domestics, also a Honda Accord, Nissan Maxima, Celica to name a few. I am impressed with many 'practical' features Volvo puts in the car. (do I really need to be gushing on a Volvo site?) One small thing that has always been a pet peev of mine is fuel gauges. I've always felt 'why must I interpret this thing....tell me what's in there.' When I realized (remember I'm new) that the 70,50,30,10 on guage represented litres.....finally!!!, thank you Volvo!

My quest for a cruise continues.....

Another question....can keyless entry be purchased if it's not already an option.

By the way, I bought a 95' 850 from the original owner. It has visited the dealership for regular maintanence every 6 months since it's purchase. It's in absolutely mint shape and I'm pleased to take it on.

Cheers,
Paul

congrats on your purchase. jc whitney is a purveyor (now THAT'S a word that my old english teacher would be proud of me using  ) of car items. i think their website is jcwhitney.com just google it if not. anyway, to answer the second question, yes to that also. there are several options for both. you can always find a reputable sound system shop to do the work for you also. they might be able to help find the items that you will need and do the work professionally in case you are not that electrically/mechanically able. keep us posted and post some pics.
