Hello I just bought my first Volvo a 2001 V70 XC I like it alot I just have a few problems.

1. My interior dome lights turn on when I open the door to get in and out. But they won't turn on when I push the button to turn them on while I am driving or parked.

2. I have no backlight behind one of the knobs on the dash that controls the heat temp so makes it hard to see at night.

3. It has 109,000 miles on I have been told I need to replace the water pump and timing belt. How soon should I do this.

Any help we be very grateful. Thanks Dan

Hey Dan, I too just bought a 2001 xc70, nearly 90k miles on it...great car when it is running right! I will check the manual when I get out to the garage and see if there is an answer for you later, if nobody replies first. Jim

Here is the deal on the lights behind your Electronic Climate Control (ECC). There are 2 kinds of light bulbs I think (2 white, 4 grey) and they are $8+ each. You might guess by positions which ones when you order it.

There is a way to change these light bulbs without disconnecting the power to the ECC. Believe it or not, I've heard people frying their ECC ($800) just from power dis/reconnect.

Here are pictures + directions on how do change the bulbs without disconnecting it

Here are my notes on ECC power dis/reconnect issues if you really want to disconnect it. Read the ECC Temperature Fan section.

Good luck.

hey dan, am happy that you are happy about your xc90, but i am sure you will be happier when you go and do your timing belt/water pump. like right now. i mean, it could last another 15k, or make it to the corner. better safe than sorry.
