Not sure if your vehicle is very similiar to mine, but right next to where you open the trunk by hand should be a plate that can be poped open with a knife blade or something thin this will expose a lock where your key should fit..Turn and this should open your trunk...Good luck

That part I figured out, but thanks! I am wondering if there is something else that may be preventing the remote from opening it. All other functions of the remote work fine just not the trunk. I replaced the fuse, even though the original one looked fine, but still no luck. It is a real pain in the @$$ to open it with the key.

I know this may sound silly, but is your Valet lock button on? Don't know whether this would keep it from opening or not. Just a thought.

And does the button on the trunk lid itself work, or will it only open with the key in?

I wonder if that'a feature they added to later models apex?
I'm sure my trunk can be opened using the remote with the engine running.

I think S60's question needs answered though - if the button on the trunk doesn't work there may be a problem with the solenoid or something.

my remote requires that i hit the trunk button twice to unlock the trunk. If i only hit it once nothing happens. With the car running , or the key in the ignition i can't open my trunk or lock my drivers side door. i find myself shutting off the car pulling out the key popping the trunk then starting the car again. Pain in my butt.. sometimes i wish i had intermittent wipers also...

Valet lock is off.
What is the UEM and where do I find it?
Trunk lid button does not work, only opens with key.
Car is off when trying to open.
Button has been pushed 2 times, 3 times, 50 times...

It may be a bad motor or something, any more suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Do a search for UEM or UEM resetting.

It's a way of resetting the upper Electronic Module (?) that I think Might control windows / doors and lots more.

It's reset using the window buttons and locking and unlocking using the remote - worth a try I suppose.

Failing that there could be loose connection in the trunk or a dodgy solenoid.

Darn, my volvo has the same problems. I brought it to the Dealer but they told me that it would cost about 200 to CHECK the motorized engine for the trunk, and if the engine is faulty then it's gonna cost ANOTHER 300 to fix it -.-

Same problem on my 2001. Can only open the trunk with the key in the "secret" keyhole. Very annoying!

Ok - Anyone find a soln for this problem??? My 2004 S60 has stopped openning the trunk when I use the remote. Can still use the key directly but not the remote - have pressed the key twice, ensured Valet switch is off, doors open via the remote, have tried second remote with no change... HELP (please)

OOPS - MY BAD - Ignition must be on to turn Valet switch off - it was on so turned it off and trunk remote works fine.

Wonder why remote trunk doesn't work with valet switched on - Valet would need the remote to open trunk, and since that doesn't work he could just use the key??? oh well it's working - never really understood Swedish engrs ;o)
