I have one blown out bulb above the rear license plate. I am some what technically inclined, but cannot figure out how to replace this bulb. My guess is to enter through the back of the trunk lid, but not sure how to remove the "insulation/felt" covering.

You are correct, you have to get to this from the inside. If you pull a few of the upholstery fasteners out, just enough to get at the bulb sockets, it's an easy fix. Be careful pulling the fasteners out though. If it's not done correctly, they will snap. Once you're in there, do yourself a favor and replace both bulbs.
