I recently installed an aftermarket HID headlights conversion kit on my 2004 XC90. The new HID headlights work great. However, I am getting a warning message that I have a "buld failure" warning but my bulbs is not failure. I took my XC90 to the dealer. They said that my H11 bulbs use 55w and my new HID bulbs use 35W which caused the computer to issue the bulbs failure low beam message. They said they can not reset the warning message. The warning message does not affect performace it just annoying. Does anyone experience the same problem? If so, is there a fix for this that anyone knows? Thanks.

 I returned my HID 35W conversion kit and bought a new HID 55W conversion kit from www.sharpHID.com. It works great as is without any extra capitor, etc. No more "bulb failure" warning from my XC90 computer.

One of the advantages of the aftermarket HID lighting kits in general is that they consume less power than halogen. But we have to live with that “bulb failure” warning message activated. Certainly carmakers, if they are customer oriented, have to address the issue and to enable resetting the warning message when lights with lower wattage are installed.

hey there,

just want to know as to whether you managed to solve the problem or not?
i just installed a set of aftermarket HID and have the same problem you faced.

the electrician installed resistors and later on a relay on both sides (after removing the resistors), between the ballasts and the bulb (or between the ballast and the original power supply im not sure)...anyway the problem is still there ie. the warning lights still appear when the lights are switched on...

i looked into the threads provided by user S60 R above and found it useful...however would this same system (ie drilling a hole on the shunt resistor module on the CEM or making a homemade resistor also work on the XC90?)...
would i need to remove the relay already fixed by my electrician in order for this to work?

any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance...

yeap i guess the problem arises only if it is lower than 55W ie 35W...
still waiting for help!!!
will the method mentioned for the older sedans work for the xc90?
