I have a 1995 960 Wagon. I put the back seats over the weekend to move some furniture, but I cannot get one of the seats to return to the upright position. It appears that the middle seat belt is locked, which is preventing me from pulling up the seat. I have tried to unlock the seat belt by pulling it and releasing, but it has very little give. A local mechanic suggested it might be the retractor. Any thoughts on this? I have not yet taken apart the seat – how complicated is it to put back together?

I am having the same problem on my 96 960. I cant even figure out how to remove the seat. I tried pulling out the pins on the hinge, but I think you have to unbolt the the center hinge first. I can't get to it because the seat is down. I also tried to find the end of the zipper on the seat back, but the zipper appears to be at the bottom under the fabric staples. I will let you know if I figure anything out.

What do you know -- I have the same problem on a 2007 XC70. I'm taking it back to the dealer. You'd think there would be an easier solution.

I finally had to take it into my mechanic and he fixed it for about $100. it turns out that the little bead that keeps the belt from retracting too far came out and that is what caused the problem.
