I have been smelling gas fumes when riding in my 1994 960 through the vents. I can even smell fumes when parked in the garage. Has anyone experienced this problem?

Thanks,

David

You need to find the source, because this could be very dangerous.

Look for fuel at the end of the injector rail, the plug that is visible from the front of the car can come loose and weep fuel, eventually going past a weep into dripping, with the alternator located near by, well I don't need to paint a picture.

Other sources of fuel vapors, the fuel pressure regulator may need replacing (how does is start when warmed up?), the fuel tank hose from the filler, the hose has been known to crack on it's up facing side, so not much may get out on a fill up, but enough for strong fumes. Inspect the fuel hose fittings under the hood, look at the injectors for evidence of leaks. Was the gas tank ever overfilled, the charcoal canister near the washer solvent bottle could be soaked from that, then if your vacuum is not strong, it not clearing as it should.

Let us know what you find.

Is your check engine light on? On my 850, if I didn't tighten the gas cap, it would show a CEL. I then found out that the seal was no good. It is worth a shot to check that also. I don't think that it would cause the smell of gas through the vents, but hey, it costs nothing to check this out.

Ew! I've got gas fumes too. I'm gonna take off my fuel rail and check the regulator. Though, I don't know what I'm checking for. I heard it could be causing my hard start when warm issue. I also have the RPM sensor error (131). Replaced the sensor and checked the resistance on the old one (350 Ohms, good). Blastit! computers!

Dan, if its leaking at the plug at the end of the fuel rail, how did you go about fixing it???
