Hello,

My check engine light keeps coming on. My mechanic says it's sludge that needs to be cleaned out, but they would have to tear the engine apart. Does anyone know of a simpler way around it? Like an engine cleaner?

Hello,

My check engine light comes on every once in a while (I believe from bad gas) and I tried all kinds of engine cleaners. Auto Zone guy who has a BMW suggested Lucas engine treatment. I put it in and in 50-100mi the check engine light went off. It stayed off for about 3 fill ups and came on again. Got some more Lucas and it went away again, this time even faster and so far has stayed off. He said he puts it in every other tank full. I am going to go with about every 3rd or 4th tank full. Try it and see if that helps.

why the sludge? are you waiting a long time between oil changes? there might be a more serious problem if you are upkeeping the oil changes.
