So, I thought it was rough shifting but after driving on the highway today, I realized that 1st 2nd and 3rd gear are fine. It is when shifting into 4th(automatically or tip tronic) that it struggles. Once this "kick" or "pop" I feel happens, the car is stuck in 3rd gear. When exiting the highway, the car stays in 3rd, even as I continue to drive around town. When coming back on the highway, the car will not rev RPM wise any lower than 2,500, and likes to stay at around 3 thousand. When properly operating the car does 70mph at around 2,100 RPM. What is wrong here? When it does get stuck in 3rd, if I put it into Tip tronic, the car will not shift up or down. Just stays in 3rd. Hope someone can help....This does not happen 100% of the time, but is fairly often. 1st gears shifts to 2nd at around 10 MPH. 2nd to 3rd at around 20 MPH or so. Thanks

When did you last change the oil in the tranny? check level. if everything is okay, it might be the solenoid for the tranny.

Im getting the oil changed in a few days.... I guess i'll have the tranny flushed or something right? Otherwise, when it shifts up normally(seems like it shifts to 4th fine, as long as im under 2RPM). If I go above there is a shutter/pop and it gets stuck in third.

If possible, get if flushed and refill with synthetic. I know alot of members here use full synthetic, as do I, and you would be amazed at the way the tranny works after. Not saying it is a cure all, but try it. If not, then it might be the solenoid. check with dealership to see if there is a recall on your model. I thought that I had read that there were a couple that just came out. Good luck.

Sounds good... I am not sure what type of transmission fluid was used before I bought the car but, will it matter if it is flushed and they just put 100% fully sythetic in. I know with conventional oil for the engine, once it is like that, it stays... Also, could you help me find any new recall info on the car to see if a recall was done recently? Looked, no luck. i'll call tomorrow thanks.

With the new synthetics out, you have no problem with changing from regular to synthetic. go for a straight synthetic, extra buck and I get full synthetic instead of a blend, go for the straight. if you are doing it yourself, or having someone do it, it will take like 10 quarts to do it correctly. because you will need to keep flushing until it is clean. do not do a pressure flush, I have heard bad things about those, especially on cars with high-ish mileage. check on google and type in service notices. if I find the link I will post it to you.
