Our 2004 XC90 (not a T6) bought in Aug 03 has consistently got 19.0 to 19.6 mpg on the highway. That's excellent for a 4400 lb vehicle!

Hi:

I can appreciate where you would be concerned about gas mileage on such a heavy vehicle. However I thought I would add one more piece of advice and that is what it is going to cost you in service.

I live in Canada so I'm sure we are paying a bit more than you would in Texas but I wanted you to know that you will not walk away from an oil change with out spending at least $200.00 a pop. Once you get into the synthetic oil and all of the filters that have to be replaced upon each service you will be shocked on how fast it adds up.

For example I recently had my 35,000KM service on my 2005 XC90 T6. By the time they replaced every filter known to man including the various hepa filters and did the oil change the bill was $264.00.

Somethign to keep in mind or to ask when considering buying an XC90. That said the drive is incredible.

We have 2003 XC90 T6, on city driving we get about 14 mpg and HWY at 19 to 22 mpg.

But it really depends on your driving habits, in my case my other half is a bit of a lead foot on the city streets

My wife's 2.5T gets 12-14 in the city, and about 20 on the open road.

I have a 2008 XC90 with 3K miles and I am getting 16 mpg with better than half the miles are highway miles. Got a loaner 08 XC90 from the dealer when my battery went dead with 300 miles on it and I got 19 mpg over basically the same course, 60% to 70% highway miles. They were the exact same car 3.2 AWD, except mine is a 5 passenger the the loaner was a 7 passenger.

I bought an 07 v8 xc90 and the gas mileage was 1 mpg better on the highway. I drove an 08 3.2 as a loaner for a few days and got 21+ mpg on the highway. Probably 15-16 in the city.

I have an 07 3.2 AWD 7 Pass - I get 15-16 city, 21-22 hwy. The XC 90 is a wonderful vehicle in many ways. But do get the extended warranty - hear me now, believe me later...

I have an '06 V8 AWD. I typically get about 19.5 in mixed, in-town driving. On the roads of Texas, I usually get about 21.5 if I'm going 70mph most of the time. If I slow down to 65mph, I easily get 23 mpg.

One time on a trip from Austin to Houston, with only me in the car and a good tailwind, I averaged 27 mpg for 140 miles @65mph! Never saw that before, or since.

Before I got my XC, I had a smaller, and less powerful Lexus RX300 V6. The XC gets about 1 mpg less than the RX did. I was very pleased and surprised by this. Just goes to show you that your individual driving pattern makes all the difference.
