I have a 79 244 with the mechanical fuel injection. It starts up fine every time but once it warms up the idle will surge or the car will die at a light. Ive been thowing it in neutral and keeping my foot on the gas to keep it alive. once it gets going it drives fine no sputtering or surging just gets really bad mileage and has that idle issue. it had new plugs wires and filter installed as well as new fuel pump just over a month ago. the emissions stuff is unhooked like the solinoid and the wax thermostat. any ideas on what to check?

it is normal for the filter in the warm up regulator to clog so it doesnt richen on start

so a mechanic/owner then might richen the mixture at start via Allen key, but then too rich normally [explains high fuel consumption]

trick is to fix the WUR

sorry new to this.... im borrowing the car from my brother in law and have never worked with a volvo before. what is a wur? where is it located and what direction do i turn it to lean it out?
also whats the mpg rated at and whats the max mph you should go in a 3spd auto?
the darn thing doesent have a tach and the motor is really loud at 70mph but i may just think that since the radio doesent work.

can you trace the injector hoses back to a black thing called a fuel distributor?

ie first thing is to work out if yours is still the KJetronic system - fully mechanical

it says lambda sound on the front grill so its got an o2 sensor but there is no electrical connection going to the injectors just fule lines that screw on to the end.... I changed the plugs on it today and it ran a lot better. the plug gap was supposed to be .028 all the plugs i pulled out had a gap of .045 or more... one was all the way out to .060 and was sparking from the electrode to the insulator and they whir all black.
