Hello to everybody,

I have a 1998 V40 TD 1.9 66kW (Renault derived engine), with 280'000km :haha: . Normal maintenance until now, when in cold days the engine suffers a lot before starting.

Hints:

- all glow plugs are new (and working)
- fuel filter is new
- i try to heat the glow plugs 2 or 3 times (key-on, wait until light goes off, then key-off) before cranking, and this seems to help a bit
- I had to accelerate when cranking, to get the engine started. White smoke is coming from the exaust, and the rotation is very irregular for the first minutes.
- when the engine is hot, the start is very easy, no accelerate is needed, no white smoke, no irregularities.

A local mechanic said to me that could be "an actuator (solenoid) in the injection pump, that should give more fuel when cold, but is not working".

Could you help? If this is really the problem, where is the actuator, and is it possible to exchange it by myself?
