We just bought a 2007 XC70 from local dealer. There's a 3.5 mm "port" in the inside of the center front armrest. The dealer told us it was for plugging in your MP3 player or IPOD and hearing the music thru the stereo.

I just tried this, and it does not work.

In the brochure and online for the 2007 model, an "IPOD Adapter Cable" that looks like you can order to be able to charge and control FFD/RWD thru the radio controls, but we cannot find anything about that.

Help!

We stuck with the HU-650 because we figured at least we could use our IPOD, now we are not sure!

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Did you bring this up to the dealer? I mean, not for nothing, but your Volvo is new, he/she told you that you can and you can't. No brainer. Why should you shell out anymore money for an adaptor when they said you could. Just my two cents worth.

When I asked of this of several dealers many did not know about the Ipod connection.

There are 2 ways.

One is to use the universal socket already provided that connects to any device with an earphone out socket (even an old walkman if you still have one). I don't know why yours isn't working. I assume you have tried the source selector and the Ipod is playing with the volume unmuted.

Then, I believe, there is a "line in" socket via an Ipod adaptor. This is an option and has to be purchased separately. This connection IMO is superior to the above in sound quality. Also your Ipod will be constantly charged and you can control the Ipod from HU unit or steering wheel.
