I've got a '98 S70 that vibrates only when accelerating. I tried popping the hood and having someone step on the accelerator, but it only seems to do it when it is in drive. I looked at the engine mounts and they appear to be ok, at least from what I can see from underneath. Any ideas?

What is the RPM's at on the tach when engine is idling in drive when it shakes ?

It starts to shake between 3-4k RPMs. I was wondering if it might be a problem with one of my struts... Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

So the car only shakes while driving at around 3-4k RPMs ? If so does the steering wheel shake at all ?

The steering wheel doesn't shake. It's not an alignment issue or something odd with the tire.

Do you have any Arrow or check engine lights on ? does it seem like the engine is what shakes or transmission or something else ? Does it do it when you put it in park and rev the engine to 3-4k RPMs or only in drive ? If only in drive try shifting from first two second than two third than fourth\drive does it do it in every gear or only a certain one ?

No arrow or check engine light. It does not shake when in park and revved. It's hard to say what is shaking, as it literally feels like it is the entire car. It does shake no matter what gear I have the car in.

Another observation is that the car shakes more as it heats up. Today was a fairly cold day by San Diego standards and it didn't shake much until the car was warmed up after about 10 minutes of driving. Then it shook like it had been previously. Up to that point, the shaking was rather mild.

Do you have any DTCs Diagnostic Trouble Codes stored in the Computer ? Is the engine running on all cylinders when its shaking ? I think your car has Variable valve timing so if the engine is what shakes it could be a problem with that.

I don't have any warning lights on. Would a warning light come on if there are trouble codes in the computer? I do have a cheap little code grabber that I can hook up to look, but hadn't thought of that since I don't have any lights (check engine or otherwise). I tried switching between economy and sport mode (which to my understanding turns the fifth cylinder off) and it doesn't make any difference. Ugh.

Usually the Check engine light will turn on when theres DTCs\Codes stored after driving enough but I would check anyway to make sure you don't have any. When your driving at road speed in drive shift into neutral and rev the engine a little does it still shake when moving but in neutral ?

I checked and nothing showed up in the codes. I put it into neutral and revved the engine, but it didn't shake. It only shakes when it's in gear.
