Depends on the unit, if it is the traditional double DIN unit, on either side there are 2 tabs, push them in and they pop out forwards as handles. Pull the handles and withdraw the unit.
Should you be planning on replacing with a non-Volvo radio you will need a suitable wiring hardness and antenna adapter.

Thanks for the help I thought that it was just a matter of pulling the handles, but as the unit has not been out since the factory it is a little bit tight.
