Hi,

we have a 1978 245 DL Wagon. When we get down to about 1/2 tank of gas the car will start to hesitate any time we accelerate. It also will hesitate sometimes just when it's running.
If we fill the tank back to full, it rarely happens.
This was a sudden occurance. We hadn't done any work to it before it started.

Thanks.
Dale

Sounds like it could be the in-tank fuel pump (pre-pump). If it is original then it's due. Also the sock filter in the tank.

I have a 1990 240 dl wagon , same problem but mine does not do it more often with a 1/2 empty tank. Can this happen with a more than 1/2 full tank? Has anyone experienced this with a near full tank, changed out the in tank pump and filter , and solved the problem?

mine just started it today, i know its low on gas but not out, i was driving along all of a sudden it won't throttle past 30% without serious hesitation and what feels like either fuel starvation or a misfire. I got this car back on the road only a week ago, it had sat in hibernation in someones garage for almost seven years. I've been expecting some things to fail after being brought back to life after sitting for so long. your symptoms sound very similar to mine, and besides the fuel gauge was the only initial casualty of the storage so i had to drop the tank sooner or later to replace the sending unit, so replacing the sending unit and prepump/filter works on mine, i'll post it and let you guys know.
