I have a 2004 XC90 and just bought a 2007 S60R. When taking delivery of the new S60, the salesman pushed some buttons on the left stalk, telling me he was programming the auto door lock (which works when the car gets to about 5MPH). I asked him if I could do the same to my XC90, he said yes, then I was distracted by some paperwork-signing and he wandered off before I could ask him how to program it. Too excited to drive the new S60 to track him down, I left without the information.

In short, how do I program the 2004 XC90's doors to automatically lock when the vehicle starts to move?

On my 2006 model it was a dealer software download option, I understand that 2007 models onwards have the option of setting this option yourself via teh driver info system.

Just called my dealer and its true. They have a download that will lock the doors when the car accelerates over 5 / 10 MPH. The doors stay locked the driver /passenger manually unlocks them.

It was in the manual on my 2008 XC90. Clear the message display, and hold the door lock button until the display says auto lock is on or off.

Ok, don't know if this will help you or not, but from my
'08 XC90 V8 manual:

Activating/deactivating automatic locking:

1. Turn the ignition key to position I or II
2. Pres the READ button on the left-side steering wheel lever to erase any
messages that may be displayed in the info display.
3. Depress the central locking button on the control panel until a new
message about the locking status is displayed.

Look for "AUTOLOCK ON" and "AUTOLOCK OFF" in
the display.

Hi all,
This is definitely a dealer software job for MY05 and earlier. Had it done on mine - cost me 20 quid. I'm not sure what year it becomes possible to program it yourself using the door lock buttons etc - but 2005 and earlier is not possible.
