My S60 2.5t has just started to make a hissing noise that appears to be coming from the drivers footwell. The noise occurs the whole time the engine is running and only stops when the brake pedal is pressed. It also carries on for a few seconds after the engine has been turned off. Has anyone any ideas???

First of all :00000732: to the forum. Does the noise sound like air leaking or is it more of a mechanical or electrical hum? Are your brakes working properly (pedal depressing correctly)? More information would make it easier to diagnose your problem.

 Sounds like it may be a vacuum line loose or disconnected..
Check under hood against the firewall where your power brake booster is, better yet really have a good look-see in the engine compartment...Possible someone could help by listening for the hiss, engine running, applying the brakes while your checking it out....4 ears are usually better than two..Good luck

It sounds like leaking air. The brakes are working fine and there is no difference in feel of the brake pedal.

I Have had this problem with my volvo for probably close to a year. I recently took the time to fix it, all i did was get up right under the wheel where the pedals are and look up past the break pedal and started feeling around. i move around this plastic scrunchy thing (sorry i dont know name) it hugs around a metal piece, and i noticed it changed a bit. I realize there was probably just a slice in it and i sealed it up with some glue and wrapped a little bit of tape arround it. There ya go, ur Volvo is jimmy rigged.

I have that same problem with my S60 2.5T AWD. Only with my car, it makes the hissing noise every time I let up off the brake pedal. It's been doing it now for a few months. But nothing has changed with me stopping the car. I stop perfectly fine, it just makes that annoying noise. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
