No filter needed.
Regular ATF is fine DextronIII.
You will remove the drain plug and loose about 3 quarts or so.

Synthetic on this end for both of mine. Mobil 1 in the daily driver and Amsoil in the hotrod.

As long as it's Dexron III.

Theoretically, if you move 'upwards' meaning from 3 to 4, is OK. Just not going to 2. (I still see it sold on shelves).

Are you saying that I can use Dexron 5 for my 96 volvo 960?

My manual says Dexron III is recommended.

I believe each version of Dexron replaces the one previous.
So, as mentioned above, if your car requires DexronII, you can use 3, 4, or 5. If your car requires DexronIII, you can use 4 or 5 (or 3) but not 2.

...but why should you?
I know for sure the Dex IV is more expensive than the Dex III.

Oh well, in anycase, i'm on a Japanese brand warm-weather ATF anyway.
(And its supposed ot be higher of DEX III standards, and so far, so good...)
