I have a 2000 Volvo V70. I just had my driver's side door lock mechansim replaced at the dealer for $450. I could not get in or out of that door, either from the inside or outside. This happened for no apparent reason -- just a regular trip to the grocery store! Since I am fat and 48, it was not fun to manuever myself over the middle console to the passenger side to get out, so I needed it fixed. After 4 hours at the dealer, the cost was $450. I am fuming. How badly did I get ripped off? To boot, the lock button on that side is permanently in the locked position, even though I can lock and unlock the door. Your comments about how foolish I am for paying this won't upset me. Thanks!!

:cat: Hi there Kell.

Sorry to be the one to tell you this-but you had it cheap.

I paid over $500.00 for the same job on my front passengers door. It appears to be about the right price.

I doubt that this is much consolation-but you are not alone.

Cheers :right:

Auckland, thanks for your reply! It does make me feel better truthfully. I was just astounded that what seems like a small part and easy fix could cost so much. Of course, I was dumb to go to the dealer in the first place, but knew they would have the part and could fit me in. Thanks for your reply.

An after market door actuator is relatively inexpensive. You can get one for approximately 6-20 dollars. Use a relay to integrate it into the factory wiring. These are relatively easy to install. Even if you had a shop install one the price would be less than 120. Buy a new switch off a Ebay or a salvage yard and you got yourself a completely functional lock system. Just go this route next time one of your other locks quit. I would hate to see you spend another 450, unless you do not mind.
