Hi

jist bought a used remote from ebay and was told it could be recoded to my car. took it to dealer who said sorry pal, these are a once off code. Is this correct? can they be recoded? or is dealer just trying to get $300 out of me for a new one.

:cat: Hi there jansen.

Normally a dealer charges $560.00 for a new key which works with your S80.

If you paid $300.00 for a key and then have to have it programmed-$300.00 for reprogramming sounds about right.

I think ebay probably ripped you off by giving you the wrong information in the first place.

Normally I would never recommend anybody to buy parts for the S80 off ebay which influences the computer.

Sorry this could be not better sounding.

Cheers :right:

 Agree, a remote/key can be expensive, although as member 'Auckland'
stated, $560.00 I believe a bit high....Had mine replaced last year for $260.00 for both....Might want to check other dealers...

so i guess you cant reprogram used fob remotes. the $300 was for the remote. i got a key for $50 had it cut for10 and paid $100 for coding the transponder. so i guess i'll just use the key and forget about the remote

I just got a brand new remote from www.myswedishparts.com for 75 still sealed and good to go at the dealer, I reccomend you go this route as the dealer quoted me 150 for the remote.. I still have to pay them to code it but i would have had to do that anyway....

either way, ask another dealer. better safe and with money in your pocked than safe and having less money in your pocket.

Good point Greek, no hurt in trying but I doubt it will work out... modern cars, while harder to steal cost the owner so damn much to replace the key and remote!
I still have to pay my dealer for the key as I cant exactly cut that myself...

I purchased a keyless remote for my 2005 S60 (used from EBAY)and I did successfully have it programmed for $100. I called the dealer and they said it could not be done..do not believe that! Ok so I took the car to a used car dealership specializing in German and Swedish cars. They said no problem, just bring the car and all your keys and remote to us. It's done and works perfectly. So you may want to check the yellow pages for a similar dealer that speclizes in Euro cars.

Renne, I dont mean to trouble you but WHY would you possibly pay $100 to have a used remote coded when I made it clear that a new remote is $75 online plus $30 to code at the dealer...
Surely this seems like the more inteligent route to go...

Also, regards keys, i got mine on ebay for $4(blank) and had the dealer cut it and code it for once again $30...

Both of these are thus brand new and i think better value... just need to hunt for a viable deal
