I have a 98 S70 and need to install a car seat on the drivers side. The headrest must be removed.

After searching and searching I cannot find instructions on this removal - the front, yes, the back no! Does anyone know the trick to do this?

thanks!

Anyone got any ideas on this one? I've got the same problem on a 2003 V70. We've just bought a new childseat for our 4-year old and it won't fit because the headrest pushes the childseat away from the back so it won't fit flush into the rear seat. HELP!!

Post some pictures to help those with different models and years. The Volvo head rests that I have encountered have a plastic clip that holds them in place. Remove the rear bottom seat cushion. Loosen the bottom bolts holding the seat back in place, pull bottom towards the front of the car to give you room to reach up and access bottom of the head rest clip. You will have to verify if this method works on your vehicles.

I have a 98 S70 that I could not fit a child seat/booster seat into because the back of the booster seat would not sit against the back of the S70 seat. I did two things to solve the problem.
#1 - I removed the side bolster (between the seatback and the door, this is the padded portion on the side of the seat next to the door just below the top of the shoulder belt and runs all the way to the lower anchor for the seat belt.) It's easy to remove. About 5 or 6 inches below the top, grab firmly and pull out toward the front of the car. There is a metal loop that goes into a slot, and should pull out with a good yank. Do the same at the bottom, but pull out and up.
#2 – I removed the head rest. To do this, I folded down the driver’s side rear seat. Where the seat is hinged, look on the driver’s side and you will see the anchor where the seat attaches. There is a thin metal spring clip that holds the seat in place. Grab the seat and slide it toward the driver’s side to depress the metal spring clip, and then pull the seat up. That should release it from the clip. Then pull the seat up and toward the driver’s side to slide the seat off the post on the other side of that portion of the seatback. Now you should have the seatback removed. At the bottom of the seatback there are four metal rings that hold that bottom of the seat cover to the material on the back of the seat. I used two pair of pliers and a flat screw driver to pry those metal rings open. Slip the fabric off the rings. On each side of the seat there is a zipper. Unzip the zippers. This will reveal the metal back portion of the seat. Now work your hand (or hands) under the metal back and between it and the foam padding of the seat. When you reach the top you should feel two thin metal spring clips. They feel like little diving boards. I was not able to press them both at the same time with one hand, so I had to have two hands in there. Press them both at the same time and have someone else pull the head rest out. Do the reverse of these instructions to put the seat back together.
I was able to tightly install the booster seat after doing these two things.
