Hi, I new to the site and I just bought a S90 after a drunk driver totaled my 240. This was kind of a faster purchase than I would have liked considering but I'm in school and and the whole transportation issue was starting to effect my education. I bought a trade in from a non-volvo new car dealer. I asked if the car was inspected what and how it was inspected and checked things that I normally go wrong on cars but now I am having some issues. So I have a few questions for the group:

The car drives fine so far. But the check engine light has come on after 3 weeks. I know that volvos are have this problem and many times nothing that seriously affects drivability has happened to the car. But at the same time the check engine light is on. I was thinking about getting an ODB reader but where can I find the corresponding Volvo codes?

I discovered that my turn light has rusted and burnt out... has anyone gotten this replaced and could you tell me approx. how much it cost you.

I also discovered that the window washer hose is not connected the fluid container-apparently someone did poor patch work, but when I tried to attach it the fluid still didn't come up. Is this hard to fix, could I do this myself and not mess up my car?

Finally, I have a general question about mechanics, if there is anyone from the chicagoland area who could recommend someone who is reasonable or at least somewhat honest who works on volvos. Being young and female the mechanics or volvo dealerships that I have spoken to about finding a car in general or fixing my cars have either dismissed me or talked to me and quoted prices to me like I'm a complete ****. Ex. I need to have my driver's seat put on track for this car (one side is off and the other is fine and functions with the move forward and backward button). My mother had the exact same problem with her S70 and took it to a northside dealership and the fixed it for free but I was quoted that the repair would cost anywhere from 179-900 to repair this. I really tired of dealing with this foolishness.

Any help is appreaciated. Thanks.

This is a bit old, so I hope that I can still offer some valuable info and save you money. If you have an AutoZone in the area you can take the car to them for a free OBD reading. I had recently done that, and found a bad O2 sensor. They then offered a free rental of the tool to change the sensor.

These are two great services that hooked me as an AutoZone customer.

I had a turn light go bad as well, and did it myself as it is very easy to access. Nothing to really explain, just take a look around for the screws.

Good luck...
