My s90 sat idle for several months. When I took it to get a state inspection, they said they couldn't perform it 'cause the on board diagnostic sensors weren't working. Dealership said to drive it, and they would kick back in. Apparently this happens alot. I'm still waiting.

Anybody had experience with this? Is this only on S90's or do all 1998 and newr Volvos do this too? Why does the car shut down its ODBs when it is n't driven?

The NON continuous monitors reset to not ready if the PCM\Computer loses power (IE) Disconected battery or dead battery All OBD Does this it just takes longer\more driving on some. 1996 And newer Or all OBD II have to have so many NON continuous monitors ready before you can Pass the Emissions test. Once the monitors Run thier test this is when it will set DTC's DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES which will turn on the MIL\Check Engine Light If theres any Problems.

Did you unhook the battery or did it go dead ? Either way you have to keep driving until the NON Continuous Monitors are ready you can check if they are ready with a OBD II Scanner. I found this to it should help http://www.deq.virginia.gov/mobile/mobobdm.html
